Technically clear cutting is a total removal of all trees without any effort for restorative efforts to add to regeneration or restoration in the future. Not many forest managers I think would ever do that since they have to go through so much red tape to get the go ahead to that. Not to mention doing that in old growth. It is mostly done in plantations where no spotted owl is going to be in. People mistake clear cutting for shelter wood cut or seed cutting.
