>>133783>>133781Bottom fishing is great. Perch (sunfish for some folks) on the hook equals catfish in the kitchen, if you're patient enough to wait until they come by.
Keeping the kids supplied with worms and unhooking the perch keeps you busy in the meantime.
True catch and release story: When I was a kid, we lived across the street from a park with a lake in it. Our Southern Baptist church was a few blocks up the road. One Saturday morning, I rode my bike to the park and caught a couple of catfish, little 6 or 8 inch channel cats. A friend's sister was being baptized the next day, so they were filling the baptistry so it could warm up overnight. The preacher always got his hair cut Saturday mornings and would have left the door open because he used the outside hose to fill the baptistry. Being an observant child, I figured out when to go in unobserved. I released the fish in the baptistry. Luckily, the preacher didn't see them when he took the hose out. The look on my friend's sister's face when she stepped in and saw the fish was priceless.
I'm probably going to hell for that, but it may have been worth it. And no, I'm not telling my children that story. I'm Presbyterian now, anyway.
