>>1274023very much so! my 8 weight i fish flies from a 4/0 all the way down to a 12, a 6 weight i'm comfortable from most 1/0 and wouldn't hesitate to go down to a #18 hook, my 4 weight i can comfortably throw a #4 bead head wooly bugger and have happily fished #20's brfore, and my 2 weght i don't hesitate to tie on as much as a #6 and have fished down to a #30 before and would even do that on my 4 weight, and my 10 weight i would happily fish 10 inch pike streamers, and have fished well down to a #2 clouser because the 10 weight line cut through the wind nicely
my 2 weight i only really go up to 4x or 5x with because i'm concerned about hurting the rod, my 4 weight i go up to 3x and down to 6x, my 6 weight i usually do 1x down to 5x, my 8 weight i happily use as much as 15 pound test monofilament instead of proper "tippet" and as little as 3x, my 10 weight i usually just run a really heavy leader since it's my cannon anyways
point is, if you get a 9 foot moderate fast 6 weight rod, and a cheap wf line you can easily fish with tiny flies for trout, poppers and streamers for bass and trout, weird creatures for small carp (pic related was landed using a 6 weight rod)
what's more is you can use normal monofilament to tie your own leaders, a leader only takes a few minutes to make, and when you tie them yourself they cost next to nothing. i'm sure you like to watch youtube or TV, just sit down with a few spools of your favorite lines (probably 17 pound test, 15 pound test, 12 pound test, 10 pound test, and 8 pound test) and a few spools of tippet and while you're watching youtube just tie up a few leaders, and package them in little paper things (i'll show a pic of what i'm on about in a bit)
it really isn't as limiting as you think it is, people even fly fish in salt water
