What essentials are you willing to splurge on, and what do you think other outists waste their money on?

for me,
Pack: fuck it, any cheap/heavy/milsurp will do as long as it carries well
Tent: I splurge
Bag: I snob, down only with wool liner, made wherever
Boots: I snob, trail shoes for me, TNF or Merrill because my feet like those
Kitchen: Fuck it, an aluminum kettle and a stick
Knife: I used to snob, now going economy
