I prefer the slash and burn approach
get the fire as big and hot as possible, & burn garbage so it doesn't have to be packed out. next purchase is a chainsaw to put in the 4by and make gathering firewood from the area around the camp easier

I do and Im currently teaching my son to carry a small garbage bag for others garbage everytime we go /out/.
When the bag is full we stop. It may not do much, but I like to think that if everyone did the same thing the forest would be much cleaner

Once a week I clean up the local gorge/stream I walk my dog up daily, honestly I'm thinking of giving up it's a futile effort. Every week I get it all and it's around half sometime a full 25kg malt sack. McDonald's trash, farm feed plastic bags and cheap lager cans with the occasionally the odd bike innertube.
