What do you think is the most american tree?
I had a shower thought of what is the most american tree. then it branched out (no pun intended) to what other countries most _____ tree is.

Ivy. Not actually a tree, but looks like it once it has choked all life of the trees it grows up on. Just like american "freedom" grows on enslaving the middle east, east asia end south america.

But seriously, this kind of question belongs on /pol.

BTW, for gemrany, it would be the german oak since it hardly grows anywhere nowadays. just like there's hardly anymore true germans around anymore. Or to say it with a quote: "deine Eichen stehn, du bist gefallen" (The oaks still stand, but you have fallen).

To answer OPs question, I'd say the country is too large to pick a single tree. Best to divide it by regions, and have one for each. For the Northwest, I'd say Douglas Fir.

Obviously teak in Indonesia. It's a social status to have as much as possible furnitures made from teak. Understandable though, high quality teak furnitures are expensive and used as heirlooms cause it's unbreakable and you don't need to buy furnitures anymore for yourself and your kids forever unless you sold it

Southeast is tough though, either live oak or southern magnolia probably.

Black walnut hands down.

Second place to the shag bark hickory

Third place to the entire oak family, primarily bur oak

Fourth to giant redwoods

Fifth to the quaking aspen

Honorable mention goes to the birch, the pecan, the various pines/firs/spruces, the cottonwood, the wild cherry, and of course the pawpaw.

a great nomination for most american tree.

I remember huge Elms along my city streets, nice shade,very grand tree, but then Dutch Elm disease wiped them out, damn Dutch! Took 3 wedges to split a single block of that stuff, cross grained like you dream about. Good times.

Eucalyptus is, by an incredibly wide margin, the most prolific tree on the Australian continent. Every single environment has some form of eucalyptus, be it tree forms, shrub forms or even the world's tallest angiosperm.

I'm not sure if any other part of the world has a comparable situation, where one genus of plant is so prolific that it dwarfs everything else around.
