>>1277141>1. No bathtub floor to protect from rain? If it’s not needed then what’s the point of a bath tub floorBathtub floors don't protect you from rain, but from stupidity. If you know how to choose a proper campsite, you don't need a bathtub floor.
Just avoid pits and ditches, and if you have to camp on a steep slope, dig a small ditch uphill of the tarp.
>2. Bugs, do you just deal with them?I do, but there's no dangerous bugs around here. If you're in an area with malaria or similiar, there are sleeping bags with a mosquito net for the opening.
>3. What’s a good tarp to even buy? Something light weight and I can use foreverDepends on how lightweight you want it. Most guys I know use either a german surplus tarp (since they are dirt cheap, can be coupled and can be used as a coat or bag) or a surplus US poncho. both are about as light as a average hiking tent of similiar size.
If you're willing to spend a bit more, there's a large number of nylon tarps which are about a third of the weight but do not offer the option to serve as a poncho or bag.
>>1277171>Tarps are a meme.Bullshit. They are pretty useful and also the only 100% legal way of camping in most of europe, which is why they are pretty common here.
>Everyone knows when you're /out/ you need a tent to protect you from mosquitoes, flies, ants, etcAgain, bullshit. Flies are harmless unless you have open wounds, mosquitoes are only dangerous in areas with malaria or similiar illnesses and ants are harmless unless you're stupid enough to sleep right in the middle of their hive.
>give you privacy to change clothesWhy would I mind if some insects see my junk? Or are you one of those guys who think that pitching a tent on a commercial campsite qualifies as /out?
>provide storage spaceThat's only needed if you're making a stationary camp. On the move, your pack is all the storage space you need.
