so if you were innawoods. for camping, or hiking, or hiding out from police. would it be better to make yourself as visible as possible, or as hidden as possible?

it's unnatural to animals and will draw more attention to you than if you look like some native wood creature.

nature basically works using camoflauge. think of zebras - lions n shit think they're trippin cus the stripes start moving. nature loves to camoflaughe and play hide and seek.

Bright colours can help tremendously if you get into a situation that necessitates Search and Rescue, though. So for mountaineering it actually makes sense to have something brightly colored.

if you were innawoods in bright clothing it would make you feel separate from the woods. for me part of the appeal of being there is the feeling of merging into a natural environment. bright colors are just so out of place in the woods.

i love the feeling of disappearing or merging into nature. your personality fades away. i used to meditate in the woods for a long time and at the end of each sesh i'd feel like the woods got up and walked home, not "me".

If I'm going anywhere for a prolonged period of time I bring a thin yet large hi-vis bright orange tarp so that in case of emergency I can make myself visible. I think that's one of the better compromises.

Always wear a hunter's orange hat. There's just too many idiots out there that will shoot at random movement, they usually only come out during whitetail gun season but squirrel and rabbit season can be just as dangerous.

This. Bring something visible that doesn't get in the way. You could easily pack a small hi-vis vest in your pack and wear it if need be.

The reason I ask is because I'll probably be motorbike/jeep roadtripping across the US and needed a tent. I'll most likely camp just a few meters in the trees or fields on the side of the road at times. so I don't want serial killers or whatever seeing me, and then dragging me away.

Poler has a 2 man tent in orange and camo. I was gonna choose Orange for my normal camping. I guess I'll get a camo + the orange tarp for whatever else

Most of my gear is orange...
there's a rule for almost every snocross (snowmobile) racing organization that requires 144 sq. in. of orange on your body and 50% orange on your helmet ... Even boondocking, blacks/whites blend into the terrain really well... so orange is kind of nice to have. And should I ever require rescue, orange is a lot easier to see...

That and my dirt bike's orange, and matching gear makes you a better rider.

I try to blend but avoid blacks because usually because they attract mosquitoes and can make people uncomfortable if they're not extra classy.

If you want to inna woods for longer than a weekend the rangers WILL hurt you, if they find you. Living in the forest is an art of keeping your visibility low but your plausibility high. Don't be found, and when you are found look like you're a run of the mill hiker.

OP, it honestly depends on your intentions. If you plan on hiking on someone elses property, getting in trouble with the law, etc, then get camo. If not, get vibrant colors to stand out so you can be easily found in an emergency.
