>>1291235>gear brands do you recommendHonestly it's something you're going to have to figure out. The gear you buy now won't be your last set. I've got a disgusting amount of gear in my closet, but I can mix/match depending on the riding i'm doing, the weather, terrain, etc and be comfortable and protected through the ride.
Helmet, find something that fits your head with goggles/sunglasses. HJC's are reasonably priced (I destroy a helmet about every two years). Had an FXR before, but I like the way HJCs fit with sunglasses better. Have an old AFX dualsport helmet, and it's okay. Nothing great, but it works. Need to replace it soonish.
Goggles/sunglasses, kind of up to you. Most of the time i'm wearing safety glasses/sunglasses. Carry a clear pair in case you're out after dark. Goggles are usually req'd if you're racing motos. I have a few for snow, 509's are my preference.
Tekvest crossover + shoulder pads for dirt, along with a pair of paintball elbow pads.
Dualsport or street rides, I've got a Fieldsheer adventure jacket. Cooler days I might pull the armor out of my jacket and wear a vest underneath.
Mesh street bike gloves are my go-to for both snow and dirt. Again, big time personal preference. Most are cheap enough that even if you don't really like them, you'll wear through them and get your money's worth in a season or two.
Armored shorts and good knee pads under over-the-boot offroad pants most days I'm on the moto. Have a pair of overpants that I like for longer street trips or bad weather, sometimes just wear gym shorts under that in the summer.
Enduro (mx-style with a work-boot-style lug sole) boots for offroad or longer street rides. Work boots for quick trips/commuting/etc.
Went through a lot of gear before I found what I liked. (Mentioned in an earlier post, took me about 7 years to figure it out.) Buy used till you find what brands/styles you like. Ebay, forum flea markets/classifieds, sometimes craigslist.
