How can we stop global warming?

Global warming is a business and business is booming.
We haven't been the nicest to Earth, but we're not the sole cause to what we're seeing. I think what that one guy is doing to clean up the garbage patches is great. I think we should find a long term energy solution that isn't based around oil. I think recycling is one of the best things we can do.

I also think people who tout global warming propaganda fearmongers.

Yeah our last 3 summers have all been record-settingly hot. Fires have been wrecking my province, for an entire week last summer the sun was nothing more than a dim red dot in the sky because of all the smoke.

I simply use public transport, bike and don't drive anywhere I can reasonably get to on my bike. It's not much but it helps, and is a lot cheaper for me to.

Seasons seem to be getting delayed slightly and they've been getting more pronounced. It's funny, even winter was colder and with more snow this year, although it only really turned into winter after new year. The beginning of spring was hot as hell, apparently beating records yet again, and giving us a shock after the cold winter. Then it turned the other direction and went into overdrive; it's been raining nearly every day for the last two weeks.
If the previous few summers are anything to go by, it's going to be another summer of really hot days coupled with monsoon-like days when it just won't stop pouring.

All the humidity has been a bit of a problem for crops and it's hard to get any real work done when there's problematic clouds coming over the mountains daily. I'm lucky to live in a region that doesn't really get hit hard by anything but the rest of the country has gotten floods, windstorms and hail so far.

Wish it was. Extreme weather trends would save humanity. We humans would obviously have many places to live and thrive. While we can utilize extreme waves/wind/solar systems to provide super efficienct energy. Think 200 degree sahara desert with 150 miles of solar panels. This is more efficient than anything we can imagine in the modern day.

Humans are affecting it, but it's happening with or without our influence. We're not making things better for us by being shitty recyclers, or by having shitholes like LA having dogshit for public transit. Or countries like India and China dumping chemicals into the air and water with impunity.

I'm saying that both the global warming activists and deniers are drinking some serious fucking kool-aid. People are making millions off of you in the illusion of man made climate change. Just like the oil companies are making millions off of the opposite.

If we do our part and recycle, promote green energy, develop alternative energy like nuclear(fight me, nuclear is a fantastic alternative), solar, geothermal, waves, water power and wind. Clean up the garbage patch, and focus on not supporting factory farming. We can fix this mess.

Read this bit of logic and see if you still agree:

The earth puts out an amount of CO2 into the atmosphere from respiration, combustion, volcanic activity, etc. The earth takes back in an equal amount of CO2 through photosynthesis, ocean acidification, etc. When humans put out just a little more CO2 than is naturally released, that CO2 has nowhere to go. Photosynthesis may increase if there are enough resources for increased plant growth, acidification might increase slightly (which damages shellfish but that's not the point here) to adjust for what humans add, but those processes can only handle so much. Humans put out a small amount compared to the earth, but that small amount compounds over time, building and building with nowhere to go.

It may be happening without our influence, but in that instance it can adjust itself because of the relative slowness. Our influences moves too quickly, in terms of centuries, compared to the thousands and thousands of years required for the earth to react.

But now its coming to the point where the major powers are starting to do something. We have people like Boyan Slat doing something about the garbage patch. We have Elon doing something about energy storage technology and helping LA with its god awful traffic issue.

I'm not denying we have an influence. I'm saying we're in the process of fixing it. It doesn't happen over night. People want immediate change. Which is impossible.

I know this is a totally brainlet idea, but could we solve rising sea levels by digging a really deep hole in the ocean?
Probably way too costly and ridiculous, but I can't see why it wouldn't work. Making an artificial trench would create space that would fill with water.
Excess soil could be used to make artificial islands, on which trees could be planted to act as carbon sinks.

Now make them out of recycling and not fresh feedstock.

Show me a real solution, not the low fat, sugar filled cheeseburger solution that actually makes things worse.

Hint: it isnt a conspiracy by the "man". You actually have to remove the carbon from the air and KEEP it out of the air.

And everyone needs to have a lot less because "renewable" energy is mostly idealised and doesnt work NEARLY as well as you have been told.

It is also proven to be logistically possible for the near future. You call me stupid but my beliefs are just expanding the current policy to meet the increasing demand. I'd love to hear what you suggest instead. So far all you have done is take grammar and language too literally to be able to understand ideas. Each time I try to share my beliefs with you I have to explain a figure of speech. Moving food to famished countries is possible by the fact that it already happens and it can not only continue, but increase in volume and efficiency if that was the policy countries chose to adopt. I remember when I was a kid hot days would come with air quality alerts (red dots in the weather section of the paper) and you'd feel noticeably raspy after exercising outside. nowadays the worst you see is orange dots and you don't get the same raspiness, unless it's early in the season and there's lots of pollen in the air.

Just came here to let everybody know that CO2 has extremely inefficient heat retention qualities and cannot produce a warming effect. It does not even have the ability to stay in our atmosphere. It sinks into the ocean because of it's piss poor heat retention. This aids in ocean acidification, but not ANY sort of warming or cooling. In fact, CO2 warming an atmosphere has never been demonstrated in a scientific environment. This is always overlooked. CH4(methane) has much greater heat retention qualities but there is such a low amount of CH4 in our atmosphere that is causes nothing more than localized effects(a farm, for example).

Now let's acknowledge something that is KNOWN to cause serious changes in our global temperature, solar activity. Any fluctuation, and there will always be fluctuations, will have a distinct effect on the Earth. More solar storms will always make the Earth warmer, and less solar storms will always allow the Earth to cool down.

I am sure none of you have studied the thermodynamic qualities of different gases, and most other climate scientists have not either. I do hope you can cope with this new information, I know that it's shocking.

Climate 'science' is not really a science because it is neither predictable or repeatable which is why some people question the reliability of the predictions that have been made over the last 20 years. The part that is extremely irritating is the massive amount of hysteria that is generated by 'scientific predictions' that we are all going to die in X number of years because the sea levels will rise and the entire planet will be a desert but will also be a jungle at the same time. These predictions have absolutely no merit and are only used to generate fear, which generates funding. The real problem we have right now is ocean pollution, not caused so much by CO2, but by fertilizers and industrial processes. The peculiar thing about that is there isn't a massive outcry over ocean and water way pollution because it 'doesnt directly effect everyone'.

The nice thing about the standard 'climate change' model is that everyone is responsible and that everyone is going to feel its effects (eventually). This generates fear in everyone and is a good source of both funding (for 'scientists') and power/control over your population(for politicians and lawmakers).

If you think scientists are immune to personal bias, you are insanely wrong. I am not a scientist, I am an engineer but I work with a large number of scientists. They are so heavily biased in what they 'think the results should be' and will go out of their way to secure future funding by '''''discovering'''' that the predicted outcome was correct(it also builds their reputation among academics).

I might buy this if the atmosphere was only comprised of gas but there is a very large portion of small particulate matter that reflects a substantial portion of both direct and reflected energy, clouds being one of the bigger factors. Cloud cover is one of the single biggest factors in determining surface and atmospheric temperatures and having a lot more cloudy days will significantly reduce fluctuations in temperature.

As a complete sidenote, having a colder climate has only ruined civilizations in the past while having warm periods corresponded to the heights of many large empires. Yes, methane and water vapor are more significant greenhouse gasses, but neither of them stays in the atmosphere long enough to cause serious warming on their own. Water vapor is removed from the air in a matter of days, methane takes just a few years. So unless we find a way to produce much more of both faster than it comes out of the air they don't really do much. Or at least the fraction we produce doesn't do much.
