Has anyone any experience transporting a kayak with a bike?
I feel this could be a good combination, to travel via bike and kayak, but I fear traveling long distances with a long ass kayak could become a real nuisance.

This is appealing for numbers of reasons but it's not altogether practical. I would be fine scooting the yak around town (nice rural forest town with tons of sleepy farm roads and lakes) but I just don't see this being practical for any substantial trips. If you had a solution where you could kayak the bike around like you bike the kayak around this would be even cool beansier.

Yeah, I was thinking one of those tiny folding bikes that businessmen ride around but then it would make it really difficult to pull the kayak.

I've through it through and the only way to transport the bike effectively on the water is if you bring a boat, so that could also transport the kayak which makes things a lot easier. Having a proper bike should facilitate adequate transport on land, pic related.

Not mine but it seems to be going to be hard to find a solution that doesn't involve fab. Therefore it's safe to say that transporting a kayak won't make cycling easier and transporting a bicycle won't make kayaking easier, but not you're not going /out/ for the ease of things. Maybe if the water distances dominate your route you can get away with a 20" folding bike and a strappage that requires less fabbing.

How do people get back to the starting point when kayaking? Say you drive to the spot and launch the kayak, you’re on the water for an hour or two...then what? I suppose you could pre stage a bike at your ending location

Just tie a rope from the kayak to the bicycle and trailer and paddle away, the bicycle will follow being drug behind.
It may not be ideal and slow you down a bit, but it should work.
