Id like to start doing 14ers. What kind of gear should i need for class 1s? I would think just thr basic hiking gear that i already have.
Class 1s seem to be "follow the trail" simple.

In Kentucky we get a lot of hills that are so steep you have to climb up them by grabbing sapplings and rocks the whole way up, but they're only ever about 1,200 feet high

West coasters love to talk shit but they shut up quick when they realize how challenging it can be

The 14ers in Colorado are so saturated with people. They are nothing more than a hike. Start prior to sunrise and preferably a weekday.

14ers are pretty variable in both difficulty and how busy they are. Elbert, Gray's, and Quandry are pretty much always going to be filled with people in the summer since they are so easy. My father and I only saw one other person on the trail when we hiked up Mt Yale in June last year.

I've been all over. A 1k foot hill in Kentucky is stage 4/5 through Vietnam tier brush. You will struggle to find equal challenges outside of mountains that are household names.

Look, I'm a very skilled outdoorsman that's been all over the American contient, I've even gotten the chance to take down Mt.Rainier. 10 feet in Kentucky rolling hills is 50 feet in the rockies even with the elevation difference.

But it's cool, Kentucky is the greatest place on Earth for a reason and it's not because people know anything about it.

I've climbed that peak, there's pretty much no place where rocks are going to be falling on you unless someone throws them.
