>>1287414Yeah, that's kind of what's bugged me about it - I don't feel like I come across as "rich" even though I'm obviously comfortable enough to travel, have a nice boat, and have no worries.
I got back to the US last year, living with family and about to head back out to the Caribbean sailing rounds soon.
When I'm sailing or traveling, I'm kind of living like a hobo by choice. Yeah, I have a debit card and a boat and plenty of emergency backup funds, but fuck, I mean I'm eating sardines and crackers, bathe in the ocean or river, and might not piss in an indoor bathroom for months on end. Apparently, though, just knowing i have the financial ability to travel and not work at some fast food joint in a random US town is enough to make the panties drop.
Without exception, every girl I've spent time with while traveling is massively more interested in finding out about my life "back home" than hearing about anything I've seen on my travels. Lots of thinly veiled questions about when and where I'm going to be back to living in luxury in the States. It's sad, because you meet some seemingly cool girls who are traveling themselves, and within 15 minutes the golddigger vibe just seems to overtake them like they can't help themselves. If you shrug it off and spend a week with them, it gets to be a borderline obsession for them to find out what exactly your bank account is like.
Pretty sure I'm going to end up sailing around until I meet that rare woman who is doing the same thing - proving she doesn't mind being alone, doesn't care about money, can take care of herself, and isn't just chasing dick or cash. Haven't met anyone close to that description yet, but she's gotta be out there.
