But then you have to understand why it's there. If something hits the bottle neat the opening, chances are it will slightly deform it. Not a huge problem generally, but when the threading sufers from it, is IS a problem. The reason the threading is on the inside of the bottle is, after all, to protect it even more.
So in case of a shock, the inside cap must be able to withstand it and avoid it being deformed. A simple plastic cap will do the trick, it'll hardly deform and hence prevent the threading from being deformed aswell. But a stainless steel cap, despite being tougher, may not, because it's hollow. Hence why the bamboo cap exists, it's pretty much a hollow stainless steel cap, but filled with a bamboo insert, making it much tougher.
It's all about how durable the threading will be.
