No, the most dangerous thing in the black waters are the alligator snapping turtles, they get really big, I mean like 4 feet diameter big and they have a tendency to bite first ask questions later. I've met more than a couple of coon asses with missing fingers, toes, one guy even lost his entire foot (although they had to cut it off it was just extremely damaged)
We also have those brain eating aomebas that travel up your sinuses if you get swamp water in your nose. I think about 12 people a year die from it. And no, chlorine doesn't kill them, so sometimes they show up in the tap water. We have little PSAs on TV about not using tap water for neti-pots (which is usually how those 12 people a year die)
You ever heard of noodling? You stick your hands in holes underwater and pull out catfish. If there's air in the hole you probably have a cotton mouth or water moccasin. The holes are also where the snapping turtles are.
