Can attest to this. Doing outdoorsy things alone has never bothered me, but I hardly bother going out in the city anymore because I seldom have a good time when I go out by myself - and can't find anyone to do things with in town because everyone is married with children, have moved away, or simply not interested in going out at night.

same, except i'm 19.
i was ultra-gamer like 3 years ago, but it got so boring.
how can people sit for >5 hours paying some stupid same shit like LoL or CS:GO?
i still play like 2 hours a week, and it's usually some open-world stuff.
it's much better to either read books or go outside for a little bit.

The solution to OP's problem is to get new friends. Meetup might work. I have had zero luck with it but I live in a tech-dead region where people are afraid of social media. I got lucky by having a recently divorced neighbor make me brownies one day and she had all the same hobbies. I've just gotten really good at being alone on outings and not caring about the dying so much. My last trip I got stranded on a tidal island by myself.

Nah son, I grew out of vidya the moment I started my first job. Just seemed, and still seems, like the most useless way to spend time after I started being productive for the first time in my life. Unless there's a social element (like party games) it's pretty childish imo.

I grew up playing vidya with my best friend I have known since kindergarten, we also like playing in the forest.
Now every time we hang out it is outdoors, with some of my/our new friends.

That's the thing about hobbies. Most people do them for fun and fun doesn't have to be productive outside of the fun itself. But streaming and reviewing both exist if you need it to be productive. The guys that actually make said games are players as well

Yeah thats one of the most common logical fallacy around "creative people". As a filmmaker I can tell you, you are lazy and simply can't produce good content because you never tried to tell a story which matters.
You are still gaming just even lower forms of lives are watching you play instead of playing themselves like a healthy human beeing.

I wouldn't personally call it a hobby if I'm honest, to me it was more like a distraction similar to social media. It's all so plastic, you can spend hours on either gathering likes or xp and creating an online identity or custom creating a character but ironically still come out feeling as empty as ever. Being /out/ in complete solitude feels less lonely than being connected to the entire world, that's why I cut all of those things off. This is just my imho opinion though.

This, I had to move away from all my buds and birth place recently to be near my family in Arizona and honestly I would give anything just to spend a day up at the lewis river near mt st helens fishing with all my friends in washington again. To anyone who has a group of friends you always hang out with, keep them close and don't move miles away.
