I live in Colorado and every week I'm out in the woods no matter if its rain, shine or snow I'm usually out in my spots

June hits and 10x the traffic in these areas and everyone is out there

I just cant enjoy it anymore, I know of a few 10+mile hikes and they're packed with hikers

Its odd, I spent all winter out there and every week would head out to these places and the traffic was much, much less. Only people going up there where hikers and skiers. Now that summer hit I was just there yesterday and BAM!!! no place to park, no where to go where its quite and just you. Fuck this kind of sucks, but I gotta get over it and just continue on

Just caught me by surprise to see everyone come out of their caves while I've been in these same hiking spots all fucking year

Here's a photo from the frozen lake, and now this place has half the fucking city of Denver visiting every week

I feel your pain. I've been spending more time in the wilderness areas (Buffalo Peaks, Lost Creek, even Mt Evans has some desolate trails) to avoid the crowds. Somewhat rough forest roads to access the trailheads seem to keep some of them away.

Last night it took me several hours to find a campsite that wasn't overrun with people. I ended up finding a nice spot off Forest Road 155 (pic related) between Idaho Springs and Evergreen. Absolutely nobody else out there.

Solitude is still out there...you just have to look a little harder to find it these days.

What areas do you know about? I'm in a high stress career and I get out into the wild to be alone and away from others

I just need alone time since work is hell. Also I have a late night flight out tomorrow and flying back to Denver Friday night. Like I said business is killing me and I hope ok Saturday or Sunday I make some time to go /out/

yeah, I know. That's tourist thinking though. You think your hike has to be to a certain place to see or do a certain thing.

what I do is park my car on a random pullout on some FS dirt road and I start walking. I don't walk in any particular direction, I change directions all the time. I just wander around. I'm not going any particular place, I'm not trying to see any particular thing. I'm just out walking in the woods.

I see amazing things all the time, and I never see people. Because people don't do that. They're on the trail heading to some particular spot so they can take a selfie there and turn around. Stop thinking like them and you won't ever see them again.

land here is super cheap, you can still buy at a couple grand an acre. Building on it is expensive though. Somewhat cheaper than Denver though. I think an average house in my town is currently $250k which is almost half of Denver's rates I think.

I noticed in the military that anyone from the South couldn't take the mildest cold without putting on snivel gear, and most people from the North couldn't take the mildest heat until they adjusted to it. Hot-dry country folks hated humidity, hot-humid country folks had to adjust to dry. Meanwhile, some places get all of the above due to fucked up weather, and people from those places thrive wherever.

look up old mining roads from the 60s and 70s that have been shut down and refurbish them into your own personal trails. that's what I've been doing to get away from the crowds. nobody else goes there because they are not in hiking books or websites. it's easier than carving a brand new trail because the terrain is already broken and flattened out. just make sure you don't make the entrance or beginning too obvious. I usually leave a good 400-500 yards of bushwacking before I put in any real machete work.

found some really sweet stuff out there including old machinery and cars, old mine shafts, etc. lots of nice vistas and waterfalls too.
