Do you like my new canoe? It's an ex-rental Old Town thing, got it for £70 here in Norfolk, England, where there are many fine waterways to paddle on.

I have a few of those. It is unstable as far as canoes go, and also pretty heavy. However it has a pretty heavy weight capacity and you got it for an amazing price as long as it has no holes/other bad damage.

How do you like pack boats? I rented one for an upcoming trip on Canada day because they look really fun. I've never been on a kayak, so should be interesting to learn the new style of paddling.

Love it. I’m actually in it right now.

My main purpose for buying it was so I can portage to remote Adirondack ponds and lakes when I move up there in the fall. Been going out in it on the big lake while I’m home and it’s been nothing but excellent

Great to hear! That's a nice catch you got there.
My current canoe is like 85lbs 18ft, really makes a portage over 1km tough especially when they are unmaintained, so I often rent until I can afford a kevlar canoe. The pack boats are so light, agile, and they have those cool removable yokes haha. Excited to try it out. A bit worried about hitting some harsh weather as I'm used to large, stable canoes with 2 people. I've been in some really rough water, so I don't know yet if I can handle those heavy thunderstorms+waves solo. Gotta get some experience in me.

That one I posted is 14’ and weighs 24lbs. I had the guy who made it make me a yoke but he left it off because he told me an easier way to carry it. If you use/have and external frame pack you can put mounts on it that connect to the canoe and you can carry it above your head hands free.

As far as seaworthiness, I’m still unsure. Like I said I’ve only had it 2 weeks and have taken it out in mostly flat conditions. The guy who designed it said he’s been in 3ft waves in it and it was fine. My confidence is way too low to risk going out in anything rough for now but wakes I’ve been hit by from boats have never been an issue.

Here's one I just sold, was a Tribe 12". I haven't bothered to grab any shots of my new Riot. I paddle in the ICW, up a few coastal rivers, and out through the breaks sometimes so the sit-on-top was killing me. I got something with a skeg and storage. Hopefully I can extend my range enough to paddle up the barrier chain in a reasonable amount of time and do some camping on the waterlocked islands.
