Hard to tell. Theoretically, an animal typically doesn't put its head in anything it's whiskers won't fit through without folding down.

And judging by the space between the sapling and the tree, even a small mammal's primitive spatial sense would've told it that it couldn't even between to fit through there.

Kind of makes me wonder if it wasn't chased into that situation or the sapling had been used as a makeshift pinning trap and the critter was never freed.

Head stuck then starved/strangled to death. What's real odd is that nothing tried eating it.

Pic is rabbit remains after coyotes/coons got through with it. If you ever hear a rabbit in distress you will never forget that sound.

That's what I figured, some idiot poached it, kept the head as a trophy, and ignored the tail meat, skin, etc etc. Just wanted a gator head to sit on top of his TV.

On another note, while I was at a friends ranch in south Texas there was a party and I got to talking with several of the ranch caretakers in the area. They told me some funny ass stories but this one wasn't. People would steal and sell trophy deer mounts. People would pay 5 digits for a trophy to mount on their wall. I like showing off kills as much as the next guy but showing off ones that weren't killed by you is extremely fucking wrong. Ill ern go so far as saying even if the animal was killed on your property you can display it. Some of these ranches have put in years of work to get populations to trophy status. Most cases more than 10 yrs.

I live in buttfuck nowhere and i use to work over at my bosses house alot. His dogs would pull in bits and piece of deer carcasses all the time, so i asked about it. He said that people poach on his land all the time and leave dead deer all over it, the dogs find it and drag it home. The game warden use to show up alot and talk to us for awhile.

Get the metal ones. Little harder to tear down unless you have tools with ya. Game cameras can catch people in the deed if you place them correctly. By correctly I mean in order to catch photos of them and also not to let them know its there. Alot of poachers are quite dumb about these things.

When I was about 8 or 9 me and my dad were walking in the woods. Our dog ran ahead and was going nuts so we go off the path to investigate.
It was a fox with it's head stuck in the bottom of a dead tree. I guess he stuck his head in there chasing something. My dad made me move away and keep the dog.
He used a hatchet and opened the hole some and pulled the fox out. That thing shot off like a mofo but not before spraying my dad.
