The sheath is flat to against the thigh
The back is serrated to tear up aluminum fuselage
The guard is so large to protect your hand when doing the above
The two holes are to llash against a pole and spear fruit out of trees.
Other than that, the design itself is pretty basic and bery similar to American hinting knives from the late 1800s, most notable Marbles, but also design from Sheffield and Solingen.
The composition and hardness of the steel wouldn't be much different either.
To make it a really good knife:
Chop off and round off the top guard completely.
File down the bottom guard until its less than 1/2 length.
Take a file and make the secondary bevel the primary one (like a scandi).
Then convex the edge.
