I used one for about 15 years as a hunting knife.
It sharpened easily, the thumb grip thing on the top was a perfect fit, it was good for skinning, and developed it's own patina from the blood of hundreds of rabbits.

Allround knifes are crap for skinning and vice versa. An allround knife should be as sharp as possible, while a skinning knife should be somewhat blunt so it doesn't ruin the hide.

For an allround knife, Mora is the way to go unless you're read to spend big. Other knives in the same price range just can't compare.

For a dedicated skinning knife, the schrade looks okay, but a wide-bladed pushknife would most likely be more comfortable to use.

That being said, I'm the opposite of a knife elitist. If it's sharp and it doesn't break easily (batoning not included, if you baton in anything other than a "had no choice" situation you're a retard) then it's a good knife. Straight blades even more so; Chinese usually fuck up any folders miserably.

China can make ok stuff as long as there's oversight.

I've got an Old Timer Woodsman, and it's held up fine for its intended purpose of cleaning game.

The 7Cr steel is about 440A in performance, so it's better than what you get on a Mora and other cheaper knives.

They're fine for what they are made for. You don't want to pry with it and do other harder tasks due to the very thin stock, but for a very good slicing knife at a great price, they're fine.

Fashion. The knives have a lot of merit but not for their price point. The wide scandi bevel takes a lot of work to sharpen. They are good woodworking knives and o.k. at a lot of other stuff.

Food prep is not a strong point. Fantastic knives when they were still under $10 usd.

Depends entirely on the heat treat. I've seen "certified 154CM" that couldn't have been over HRC 30, I've seen D2 that was brittle as fuck, and my 3-blade Buck with pre-HC 420 stainless (usually regarded as shit reserved for cheap chink knives and kitchenware) is actually pretty good (if not very abrasion resistant cuz 420).

Bullshit. My opinel just used to be a little curiosity I had with using a old timey knife. Now it's my most used knife and I appreciate the extremely sturdy and simple lock, pure genius. I used to use tacticool folders but I'm a convert. Opinel is cheap, easy to maintain, carbon steel ver is sharp as shit, and is people friendly. Great for general use.
