I drew a cow elk tag that lasts from Aug 1 to March 31, do you think there is a period in that time when an elk's meat would taste better than other parts of that particular season?

I'm not that knowledgeable on the subject, but I'd assume whichever month is the farthest away from when the Elk are in heat would be the best.

i know with bears, best time is spring- early summer, when theyre eating berries and shit
alot of critters end up tasting differently based off what theyre eating

Honestly though, the earlier the better in that tag. If you start to get into September, you get into rut in most places, then you're better off waiting till winter.
