My buddy handed me a pair of ziess binoculars the other day on a hike and holy fuck they blew my shitty ones away.
I looked into getting some but they cost a fucking grand!

Are there any good cheap ones out there?
Maybe chinese knock offs?

I don't think I'd go with a knock off. Just get a smaller, cheaper one from a good brand. You're not gonna lug a big pair around everywhere you go. I recently bought the Steiner Safari 10x26 and they're pretty neat.

I like my vortex binoculars. I got the compact 8x ones. They sre much clearer than the junk i had before. I want one of the diamondbacks

Zeiss, Swarovski and Leica are the best glasses you can get. Schmidt & Bender are also a very good pick. Same goes with Rifle scopes.

Buying new can get pretty expensive.

You can find a decent middle ground with vortex though as mentioned elsewhere here, their warranty is no questions asked and fantastic if you beat your equipment up hunting etc. If you're birdwatching or something just pull the trigger man, you'll have em forever...

I got some good pair of Celestron binos. 10x42 I think? They were cheap, and their comparable to my friends multiple $K’s Swarovski binos. Obviously the Swarovski are better, but not by a margin the price would suggest.

Potentially, yeah. Though 30 isn't quite enough time to say it's guaranteed.

I've got some ~25 year old Leicas, and they're kinda milky and have a lot of edge distortion compared to my flagship Bushnells.

This. If you are birdwatching buy a decent pair and they last a lifetime. Alternatively a $150 pair will be OK if you are casual. I have a $2000 pair of Swarovski binoculars and a spare $150 Nikkon

The optical quality of the $150 pair is fine to do fieldwork surveys and general birding (I keep a third pair under the car seat that are worth around $90 in case I see anything out and about), many good birders do fine with a pair that costs a couple hundred dollars or so. You are basically paying 10x the amount for say a 25% improvement in optical quality.

Any modern pair of $150 binoculars is more than adequate for 99 percent of what any person will do unless you're a sheep hunter and need to count rings
