Just got back from a couple nights camping + backpacking with my fiancee. It was her first overnight hike, but she did great on it. Night one was car camping at a remote campsite about ten miles from the ferry pickup point. Got on the ferry Thurs morning, got dropped 30 miles up the lake in the middle of nowhere, hiked 10 miles in the first day to a campground. Hiked the remaining 8 miles on day 2 to a remote town at the end of the lake. Hung out there for day, crashed at the lodge, and took the ferry back the next morning.
Things we saw: a garter snake, a rattlesnake (pic related,) a black bear about twenty feet from our tent in the morning, some deer, quail, a grouse, some lizards, and some mountain goats.
