1) pay attention to your center of gravity, there's no need to put your weight anywhere but down
1b) why would i want to put the end of a stick on the ground instead of my foot when my foot has beter sensing capabilities, better traction, more agility, muscle memory, etc.
1c) walking sticks actually impede the natural use of your body, you might have two more legs but now you have no hands to keep balance with, to keep bugs out of your eyes/face, for climbing and decending.
2) seems like everytime i could actually use a walking stick there are walking sticks everywhere left by people going the other way, if not just pick a nice stick up and you're good to go.
3) I hike a lot in the rain, don't need lightning magnets on my back.
4) walking sticks can torque your knees because, surprise, you are not applying force in line with the joint.
5) more stuff to carry? Why carry something you will only use 1/20th of the time or less when as mentioned above there are infinite suitable choices of sticks just laying around that you don't have to carry with you once you're finished using them.
6) if you get a walking pole to go faster you should have just bought a bike, if you get a walking pole to help your knees, learn to keep your knees bent and absorb the impact, if you get a walking pole for climbing/decending just use your hands/arms.
