>>1310322Not him but I was in your position three years ago. I was the director of purchasing for a huge hydro company that did a lot of government projects (read: big money). I was living in a "top 10" city, paying for my "top 10" mortgage. I sat in traffic for two hours every day and had very little free time. I had to drive for several hours just to go /out/, and even then the areas were busy. Despite my sizeable salary I didn't really have a lot of extra money for these sort of road trips anyway, so I rarely did them. The worst part is, I never wanted this. I never went to university and studied business or supply chain, never saw myself sitting behind a computer in an office, never wanted to manage an entire department, nothing like this. I just got lucky and moved up the ladder abnormally fast, being hired at the right time and working closely with the right people.
Anyway, I quit the job, sold my house, and moved to a small town in the Rockies. I bought a cheap 1000sqft rancher house outright with cash, so I'm mortgage free now. Taxes in this town are much lower and I no longer commute anywhere, so my cost of living is very small. I only work part-time as a warehouse grunt driving forklift now. I lied about my previous employment to get this job. I am 10x happier and loving life more than ever before. I've become a pretty good hunter and fisherman, have hiked more mountains than I can count, and I can literally throw a dart at the map to find somewhere new to go each weekend.
Get outta the city and live like me. I might only make 20k/yr now but who gives a shit about money anyway? I don't even need it for anything I'm interested in.
Sorry for blogpost I just get triggered when I see wageslaves still living at the zoo. There is a better life out there.
