Anyone can take a day trip to their nearest forest and go on a little two-hour hike, but that's not really the same thing as wanting to become an /out/doorsman, is it? I'd argue that people who toddle off to a campground with running water, heated showers, outlets and indoor toilets for a week in the summer aren't really /out/ either.
The absolute minimum you should have to do before being considered /out/ is be able to set up a tent and make a fire safely, out of firewood you gather yourself. That or be able to fish (and clean your own catch) or hunt 2-4 times a year. That's like, entry-level /out/
