REI Return Policy Changes

No.131366 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Figured I'd let /out/ know about this since I don't think the PR people at HQ have 4chan in mind when they send out press releases.

The REI return policy has officially changed. Gone are the days of "no questions asked" because we simply can't afford to keep that system going (believe me, my pay stubs are a good indicator of this).

The new return policy breaks down thusly:

1. Defective merchandise can be returned AT ANY TIME (normal wear/tear and user error do not qualify as defective) with proof of purchase.

2. Non-Defective items may be returned up to 1 year with proof of purchase. (If the product is uncomfortable, does not meet your needs, etc).

3. Discount items purchased from rei.com/outlet now have a 30 day return limit.

4. Sale price adjustments have been shortened from 30 days to 14 days.

5. This only affects purchases made from today onward. Purchases made before today will still be handled under the old return policy.

This is probably going to piss some people off, but a 1 year return period for non-defective items is still better than most online retailers will offer. Another positive side of this is that the used gear we sell during our Garage Sales will likely be in better condition.

As for the old joke "Rent Every Item" I would like to remind people that we do ACTUALLY rent equipment at our stores so if you're strapped for cash that option is available to you.

Here's the seattle times story on the policy change as well.
