Let's actually discuss something seeing as this thread is off to a bad start.

I love my hatchet. It looks nice, feels good to use, but I kinda have to force myself to use it over literally anything else, take my silky big boy as an example, probably the best tool purchase I've made in recent history, I can delimb trees, saw logs up to 9 inches, it lets me create breaking points in branches to snap them into workable fire fuel and its far more energy efficient than a hatchet, but it can't split wood - but I don't need to do so because I'm already collecting smaller twigs.

Why even own a hatchet if a different tool outclasses it in every way?

I'm not really going into the ability to carve with the hatchet because I don't think feather sticks are terribly necessary to start a fire and I'm not doing bushcraft, I'm just collecting firewood.

Is it just that hatches are fun to use? Is that it or am I just missing heaps of efficiency in use?

Hatchets are for intensive woodworking, like making a canoe or a bow. They are fun but not at all necessary for camping in my opinion. You dont really need precise cuts for wood that youre going to burn anyways.

Depends on your backpack size (and what backpack it is), how well it's suited for a frame, whether you want an internal/external frame, how much you want to pay for a frame/how much effort you want to invest into making your own frame, what you want the frame to solve and how large you want the frame to be.

It's a problem with any number of solutions, ranging from stuffing an appropriate cushion into your pack to strapping the whole pack to a load hauling external frame.

On most outdoor excursions I bring a quality fixed blade knife and a folding saw because in my experience those cover most bases even in an emergency. Some people would even consider that overkill. If you need to split branches for whatever reason you can baton with a good knife OR just carve a wedge out of a branch and go from there. You'll find carrying less weight and just knowing how to do things is preferable to lugging around heavy tools that aren't necessary. Also, what you carry depends on 1. What you're doing, 2. Where you're doing it 3. When you're doing it. A Canadian hunter has a lot of use for an axe in the winter, a Brazilian has a lot of use for a machete in the jungle for example.

Id like an external frame for about a 60 liter bag. I have plenty of time and money, Im mostly jut curious about where to buy such a thing if they exist, or if I have to just buy someone elses pack and remove the frame myself
