1L was its designation. Not the best, but pretty decent.
The late 80's model would have had the improved 2L with or without turbo but I'm not sure those were ever imported.

I parked my SIII LR 109 nose to nose with an double cab 80's F250 once. They were the same width with the F250 being about 3 feet longer at the bed.
Modern American trucks only bigger than vans because they have larger wheels and pigfat body, but a low roof. The Hilux and the Ranger etc is also pigfat. Wheels are now much wider, so are wheel arches and body panels.
A few months ago I saw a 50's GMC come up a few a car infornt of me. It totally disappeared behind a pigfat RAV4 tailgating it.
