Mo fag here. Theres lots of equestrian trails and groups here in the backcountry. If you’re serious see what’s available near you and talk to some people. They all are very friendly and will talk your ear off about horse shit if you let em. But its a lot more work than its worth in my opinion. Grew up on a mini ranch. Hated every fucking second of it. Horses are stupid. Mules are a lot smarter and more chill in my experience but 10x more willful ie stubborn as a mule. Its not just a hobby you pick up. Thats why only hillbillies and millionaires have horses

Mules and Donkeys were very useful in the SW, but nowadays the cost of having them in a pen on someone else's ranch so you can use them maybe once a month is not really worth it.

One costs $2000 and $2000 annually in upkeep, and unless you pay someone to pen it you need 2. So it isn't the worst, about like buying a weekend motorcycle, but you better live where you can use it every weekend.

One think to consider is their dietary needs. Horses evolved to eat grass. Donkeys evolved to eat dried up brush, sparse dry grass, lichens and other not-very-nutritious feeds. They tend to get fat and sick when kept on grassy pastures.
