Are people even allowed to alpine Everest anymore?

Seems like it's all guided climbing where you're using preset ropes, going to preset basecamps, using bottled oxygen, and having sherpas carry all your shit for you. Seems like the only skill is being in marginally good shape.

as per Jan 2018 seems it depends on the local doctor there and you need to declare your asthma phase.
Also, seems none of the big name companies say that you cant.
At least one guy that I can see has got to the summit this year with asthma.

I've read that Everest has turned into a huge tourist attraction for wealthy Type A personalities. Permits cost $10,000 each at a minimum and are only sold through luxury tour packages which means that a brown person will carry all your heavy shit and cook you food the entire way up. Oh, and there is WiFi the entire way up so you can livestream to your friends back in Silicon Valley ;)

With that being said, it's a once in a lifetime experience and I am sure it's still impossibly difficult and the $30k - $200k price tag is worth it for many.

iirc ueli and simeon were attempting an oxygenless speed ascent and crossed over some lines the sherpas were fixing, insult contest ensued, sherpas got genuinely butthurt and took it to the next level. fucked up thing is simeon flies rescue helicopters in the himalayas and saves shitloads of sherpas.
