>>1321164I cave dive, but to be honest my many hours of logged cave dives (204 at last count, since 1997) are all with someone more experienced than me in a training or mentor sort of environmnent. I prefer it that way; I don't cave dive for just recreation, I do it as a challenge and a goal and try to really learn something new with every dive.
Tell you what one of my first instructors told me long ago: "the only good reason to cave dive is to rescue idiots who cave dive." Over time, I've come to believe that. There will always be a need for Search and Rescue, and that's a valid reason to train and learn. It doesn't seem any more "fun" for me to just go into a random cave than it would for a fireman to spend his off time lighting up an abandoned house and shuffling around through it. A training plan, and a goal to figure out new stuff and practice skill sets, makes it worthwhile.
