>>1322993I just bring what I eat at home, but I'm a farmer, so everything I eat at home is stuff I raise, grow, fish, forage, kill, or trap. In fact, I've bagged 3 raccoons each evening this week so far. Well, only 1 the first evening, but it was huge.
Dehydrated or canned meat + lard (any meat from jerky to spam/treat will work)
Carrots
Potatoes
Onions
Salt & spices (black pepper, cumin, hot pepper, bouillon cube, whatever you like)
Egg
Egg Noodles (any pasta will work, but noodles or ramen will be better than most)
Cornstarch
Fry meat and diced onions in the fat in the bottom of the pan/pot. Once the onions are sauteed, add water, salt & spices, and 1/2" chunk-dice the potatoes into the pot. Put the egg in the shell into the pot as well. Save room for the noodles, carrots, and cornstarch + cold water later on. Bring pot to a boil for 10 mins. Remove egg in shell and shell it. Put egg noodles and thin-sliced carrots into the pot. Add cornstarch mixed just enough with cold water to make a slurry. Add that to the pot. Bring pot back to a boil. Cook until the egg noodles are as tender as you like. Pour out a bowl of noodle stew, slice up the hard boiled egg and place over the meal. Tuck in.
Note: if your potatoes are too well cooked by the end, don't dice them up so finely next time. Obviously, the egg shell should be properly clean before putting it into the water for hard boiling. All of these items don't need refrigeration and can be packed for long term hiking/camping for up to 2 weeks without any problems.
