Gonna Be Homeless; Advice?

No.1328951 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I'm gonna be homeless in the next couple weeks and I need some help figuring out how to get by.

Frankly, I have it pretty easy compared to most. I have a full-time job and a car, but I cannot afford rent in my area. So I have gas, food, phone bill, car insurance, ect covered, but can't make rent because it's just too high in my area to be covered by my min-wage, full-time job.

Close to my job is some public land in the hills, the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains. I figure I can park my car in this one somewhat nice neighborhood (nice enough to not worry too much about car thieves, but not so nice as to worry about some sort of community watch gestapo) and hike an hour or so into the hills and camp there. Thick brush and no trails except animal trails so very few people would be in the hills I scoped out. Also, my job is graveyard shift at a gym so I'll have access to showers, washing-machine/dryer, and the gym itself while I work at night. I can hike, have my car parked, and sleep during the day which feels a bit safer for all three aspects.

>Sounds like you mostly got it figured out. What are your questions?
1) What kind of tent would be ideal for this situation? I said I found a nice neighborhood to park in, but it's surrounded by shitty, ghetto, meth-y neighborhoods on all sides so I'd like something low-profile so it's not as easily spotted by opportunistic tweakers and gangbangers who find themselves on a nature walk. Not too concerned about comfort. I'm pretty good at living like a rodent. Just something low-profile, durable, and easy to quickly setup/take down. It's not that windy where I'm at. Are spikes necessary for all tents? I plan on only having it up when I'm sleeping in it or sitting in it reading/studying. I'll take it down every night before work and hike it back up and set it up after work.
