How do you deal with these fucks when your camping?
Anyone tried any spray/traps for them, do they make a difference?

I just catch them and tear their heads off. One year they were really bad. I caught two dozen per hour. There was a pile of heads and a disorganized pile of buzzing bodies when I was done for the day.

You can't simply slap them, they are pretty resilient. You have to slap-catch then dismantle them. However, it is better if you don't kill them because other horseflies seem to be attracted to the death scents of the dismembered ones. It is the same with deer flies.

Its just a 2 liter bottle with the top inverted, as my diagram shows, with an attractant which from research is a sugar vinegar mix. Thoughts?

Although I think horseflies dont nearly hurt as much as deerflies. I was bitten by horseflies almost a hundred times and it went away in like 24h, but I was bitten by these colourful, smaller fuckers (deerfly) a couple of times and it was always swollen for five fucking days and it hurt more than I was comfortable with for the whole five days
