Got an arrest ticket for "boating without a life preserver" while paddling around a kayak. State law says you only need them in motorized boats, and that only children actually need to be wearing them and they only have to be onboard for adults. I had a USCG-certified inflatable actually on, showed it to the water cops, who went "yeah that counts but I've already written the ticket". Threw an absolutely HUMONGOUS stink about it, called their office and was told to pound sand so called the state investigative bureau who claimed to launch an investigation. Managed to "beat" it in court because the cop never showed to testify at the hearing so was defaulted to a no-bill.
Get harassed about once a month for having an unregistered boat on my farm pond (in my state you only need to register boats that are on public waterways, you can use whatever you want on bodies of water wholly enclosed by your property) but have never been ticketed over it. Really fucking steamed that sheriff's deputies will walk the mile and a half along the edge of my corn field to get there without a warrant or probable cause.
Have been held at gunpoint twice by police for using a legally-owned suppressor, it's absolutely astonishing that LEOs don't understand that they can be legally owned.
