A few years ago the majority of my camping supplies were stolen and since then I basically gave up on hiking, fishing and camping.
I'm looking to get back into it again, this time with a wife and child but I don't have the money to go all out and buy a bunch of fancy equipment. Last time I slowly acquired gear over years of Christmases and summer jobs as a teenager but now I obviously don't have the time.
I would like to go backpacking to more remote locations like I did years ago so I assume military surplus equipment would be my best option but it gets kind of heavy and that's okay for me but my wife isn't nearly as strong as I am.
What would you do if you had to start from scratch again?
