Colorado vs Wyoming vs Montana

What state has the best mountains, lakes, wildlife, etc. Whats the best state to buy land/a house?

I feel forced to stay in CO because of Denver and the surrounding area. I cant meet qt hiking babes in WY or MT, theres no cities

I don't know how people do it. I've seen some gnarly passes in the summer and can't imagine what it's like in the winter. We have to deal with huge rain and dust storms, but the ice is so different.

This is my car when I drove through Wyoming in December. Car stopped short and I hit the brakes too hard and alsmost went into the Poudre river.

It depends. Colorado's mountain get shit from all the gnarlers that say they're only difficult to ascend because of the altitude, not the climbs themselves. The mtns are less craggy and more rounded, but mixed with the altitude and the weather systems that form around then is what makes the skiing so good.

I cant really speak to the other states, i'm only speaking from the shit i've heard out of towners say

only been to CO a couple of times but the mountains seemed very "dead" to me. besides the tall peaks with a bit of snow, everything was kind of brown and ugly. didnt see anything like your pic.

What shitty part of Colorado did you visit to get that impression? Or did you come here during spring / late fall? Although CO is on average more dry that the other rocky states, most areas above 8k feet get a lot of rain and are plenty green. Picture related is of the San Juan range.

Best Mountains, probably Colorado but its super busy, Wyoming is a close second and there are way less people

I'd heavily consider Wyoming or Montana if the whole job thing wasn't an issue, I work in tech near Denver. It lets me actually build a future and pay my bills while having pretty easy access for nights / weekends / breaks to get out. If money wasn't an issue I'd move, theres too many god damn people moving here and traffic is a nightmare.

You missed the point entirely. The rockies are plenty green during the warm seasons. They are further north and much higher up so they have a long cold period.

Saying they are shitty brown mountains is like grabbing a picture of the Appalachians during the winter and going "lol those are shitty brown mountains".

I like it. It's definitely a blue collar town. It has a lively downtown with a skyline and partially the university of TN. East knoxville is the ghetto. North idk. West is the normal white people area, lots of restaurants. South is the more countryish part. The mountains are about 30 mins south. Whole area is great for /out/. There's a big nature reserve in south knoxville and then of course there are the mountains just right there with everything. You can hike year round

Illinois anon here, with a tech job where I work remotely. Moving in the next few months, Knoxville is definitely high up on my list. Thanks for the post, I found it helpful. Would you say it's a good place for someone in their mid 20s? I love being /out/ but I need to meet people while I'm still young. I like the Ozarks but that was a little too middle-of-nowhere for my age. Maybe when I've got a wife.

I'm debating between Knoxville (low living cost, no state income tax) and Denver area (high living cost, lots of young ppl). I feel like Denver is such a meme and cities that are memes are full of losers. A place like Knoxville has that secret hidden-gem appeal for me.

but the good news is wyomming is filled tot he brim with hidden gems and pretty much unexplored territory for hikers/rock climbers

if youre ever here i reccomend visiting Esterbrook, Boxelder Canyon, and Chief Joseph Highway

He's taking about topographical prominence which is a measure from base to peak. Most Elbert ascents only involve gaining 4-5k feet of elevation from the base. This is opposed to the normal measure of prominence which compares a peak with its neighbors, which scores Everest as having its entire height in prominence as an example.

Again, depends on where you live. The US is massive. It can be -30C on the plains while it's 25C+ at the same time in Florida in winter. Certain locations around the Great Lakes can receive over 5 meters of snow a season easily.

Definitely depends on the region, but usually people in regions that don't normally get a lot of snow get all giddy over 1 ft of it. Pic related gets 100 inches of snow a year (2.5m) and it's in a "desert" state.
