anyone been on the bank as of late?

been myself a few times in the past month or so but given the fact that the UK is currently between 20-30c it's extremely hot, maybe too hot to fish, anyone have any tips on increasing catch rate? baits/rigs/setups etc

pic related; biggest from last session caught using tigernuts in a snowman setup

I find it hillarious that carp are all the rage in the uk where they are rare yet where i live in canada they are fucking everywhere but noone fishes for them because theyre garbage fish

Fun fight but fuck are they ugly. Not like the uk doesnt have some nice trout or pike you could fish for either

I caught this carp on a riverbank in Manitoba. It was 28 inches. Fought hard. Also the biggest fish Ive caught. I was using a pickerel rig and worms.

i would really like to but i cant find them. i live in PA where its legal to bowfish carp and theres no limit, so they pretty much just get wiped out. i get that they're not native and can be harmful in some bodies of water but shit man. it would be nice if there were at least some around. i get tired of bass and catfish, and it would give me something to try for in the winter. going to take a trip this weekend to try and find some survivors.

Yeah just a local commercial fishery, currently running a leadcore heli setup and it's been more effective than a straight up ledger/hair rig setup, when they're heavily topping I'll opt for a zig rig but that's not worked at all yet

I'd say spring and autumn, not 100% but that's what I'd say, when there's some sunlight and it's quite cool, winter is a difficult season to fish because the water will start to freeze over and the fish won't move as much unless they have to, I think summer is bad due to heat and I think they start spawning around this time of year

Carp are rife here in Australia- it's pretty much the only freshwater fish i catch. Trash fish but it's fun to land a big one. They're introducing herpes to wipe them out soon, which has got some people buttmad. Pic is old, it's too cold to catch them now.

shame really as they're fun to fish, a 15lb+ carp has a lot of fight inside it, can easily crack you off if you rush land it without tiring the fish out, what else do you guys fish over there? and for food or fun?

fuck i hate them, i conk their heads in and turn them into fried nuggets for my kids or grill and feed them to my dogs, it should be illegal to return these fucking things to the water because there's so many of the bastards and absolutely nobody wants them because muh trash fish tastes bad because they ate a silver or bighead carp which taste like sweaty greek food, common carp is actually p delicious like any white meat fish

between carp and turtles i don't know which i actively despise more though, i'm so fucking sick of seeing them

they're a fun fight, nice powerful fish, there's no fun in a small fish that you can freely reel in. It's more fun knowing you can snap of real quick if you try force it in, in UK carp fishing is a big thing, I imagine across Europe its quite big also, in UK there's hundreds of dedicated carp ponds with fish ranging from 1lb up to 60lb plus, most people here won't fish them to eat but more to feel a fish fighting for freedom, good fun.

yeah i know, carp fishing has everything up to and including wheelbarrows and brollies, it's heavily marketed in europe and when i went to the netherlands there was entire shops dedicated just to carp stuff, it was kind of funny because i walked into 2 shops looking for basic fishing tackle and they were just full of carp gear but it was neat to see how into it europeans are, i got some korda and ESP cryogen gripper hooks there that are pretty wicked sharp though and i like the method lead setups

carp are just so annoying here in the US regardless of how well they fight, if you go up to the missouri river you'll see literally hundreds of them breaking the surface in massive schools, their populations are basically running wild and completely unchecked because we have no domestic market for them, i think over there you guys consider them a protected species

we also have the larger silver and bighead ones that get up to an average of like 40-70lbs, taste terrible and are devastating native species with their voracious feeding habits

common carp i don't mind so much but i got no love for the silver or bighead fuckers

Yeah I see what you're saying, from what I've read about carp in the US they've pretty much infested all open waters/lakes/rivers etc, it's not so bad over here, there's some in open waters etc but most people myself included will go to a fishery, korda and esp have some good gear, I'm currently using a korda leadcore heli paired with a 8" fox hair rig, works a treat and the hook is sharp as hell. another good product to try for yourself is the korda power smoke liquid attraction, really useful for pulling fish into your swim

Look up 5 fillet method if you want to try it, youll get 5 boneless fillets and not much meat left on the carcass. Id put it on par with walleye for fish fries

i still cant figure out how to fillet it bonelessly but still eat them because the bones are big enough you're not going to miss them to accidentally swallow.

the meat is a little softer than walleye, but still very good
