Just went with an outfitter by horseback into the Northern Rockies on the hunt for stone sheep. Survived on little more than dehydrated potatoes and fruit leather for three weeks because of bears raiding our cabins. Ask me anything

Feet are actually perfectly fine. I had some Altra Lone Peak 3.5 with two pairs of Darn Tough socks, managed to have dry feet by the end of every day.

Don't recommend it though, the steep downhill and the shale took their toll on my knees and ankles, need high ankle boots and knee-high gaiters for the terrain.

We had one lake that had some fish, but we moved onto another lake with no fish. Some of the lakes there are very isolated

I snared a squirrel and we killed about 12 porcupines. Buggers are slow but you gotta hit them in the head to kill them

I was only there for three weeks, riding in on the horses, doing wrangling, spotting, and cleaning up the camps for the hunters. We did spot plenty of stone sheep, none above 8 years while I was there. The first stone sheep hunter came in by bush plane while I was leaving.

The food had to come in by bush plane (along with the hunter). There was basically no other way.

I was working for the outfitter. Lots near Liard River, you can easily find them. Outfitters get the tags, but hunters buy the stone sheep hunts for about $50k. I think for moose it's $20k, and goats $5k. Not sure about caribou.
