Have any of you ever done this trail? It seems quite fantastic.
What's the best way to start, the Atlantic coast or the Med? Can you camp along the trail or are you forced to sleep in huts that charge you an arm? Finally is the route well marked?

Camping is illegal, but not a problem outside of National Parks, Nature Reservoirs,...
Hopefully obviously: NEVER make a fire, even a stove has to be watched the entire time and kept away from anything that burns!
Huts are not expensive if you keep to alpine club huts. Oh, and join a club, it will already be worth it for this trip, since huts are cheaper for members.
It should be very well marked, but changed a lot the last few years, so Im not sure.

As for your questions, I haven't been to the Pyrenees myself (damn southerners and their burning sun) but I guess you can find
http://www.pyrenees-refuges.com/#8/42.902/0.676 lots of empty stone cabins you can sleep in for free
lots of cool places to camp in the wild
good enough marking, but you still need a good map. IGN have some very good maps, plenty of options from 1/25000 to 1/100000 with varying cost. Careful tho, GR11 is the spanish name for the spanish trail, the parallel french one is GR10.

I'm quite interested in Brittany, but from a cultural perspective mostly - wanna see all that christianised pagan shit they've got and such. How much exposure to that would I get if I trekked the GR34? And how long does it usually take you to cover it whole?

That seems to lack elevation and there's too many towns along it but I'm sure it's quite beautiful. Thanks for the info tho, will certainly give it a look.
