My grandfather planted a silver maple in 78 that was over 6 feet in diameter and 70 feet tall when I cut it down because it was starting to split and threatened my garage if it broke. It was planted right next to a mostly silted in old ditch from back when the home site was field and the 80 was still a 160, so it had wet ground 6 months of the year most years.
