>27 August 1942: Ed Jordan, of Jordan’s Cabin, died at the age of 67.Ed Jordan's cabin can still be seen on the Salmo-Creston highway, about 20 minutes west of Creston. Pete the Packer, a butcher, prospector, and logger from Ymir, built it, probably in the early 1900s, for use when packing supplies in and out of the mountains. Pete died in 1923, and Ed Jordan took over the cabin. He trapped in the winter and packed in supplies to the Bayonne Mine, whose access road goes off from the main highway, until the mine shut down in 1929.
Ed had several small cabins on his trap line, and in 1942 was either building another one or enlarging one. One of the logs he was lifting to the top of the walls slipped and crushed him. He made it back to this cabin, but was suffering from internal injuries. Finally, in great pain, too weak to do even the most basic tasks, and knowing he was likely to die of his injuries before anyone came to the cabin, Jordan shot himself. His body was found about three weeks later
