I'm fairly new to /out/ and on a recent day hike got caught in a thunderstorm while in the forest.
I was on a trail and luckily found a wind shelter to wait it out in.
What advice would you give if this happened again and I was away from any shelter or protection? Advice I've read says stay away from trees (hard to do in a forest) and stay away from open areas (which is the opposite of avoiding trees).
Also feel free to share any of your storm hiking stories.
