I use my grandfather's safety razor, edge gel, Wilkinson blades, and aqua velva ice sport (the kind that doesn't smell like an old man).

I don't, unless it'll be a long trip and I expect the neck to bother me. If that's the case, I'll have a bic sensitive skin disposable razor with me and use it with a bit of soap and follow with an alcohol wipe as aftershave.

also, what do you use for soap? i would think that some might lather poorly and arent suitable for shaving

Normally I do not unless I with company that requires me to stay somewhat non feral. For these special occasions I use Coco butter for shave cream with hot water and a disposable.

You know what the best thing is? I grow an impressive full beard relatively fast and it never goes past the jawline. there is quite literally an invisible line between beard and neck. It always looks perfectly trimmed on the outside (aside from moustache and cheeks, which I must trim). Yet my voice isn't superdeep nor do I grow any significant amount of chesthair and pubes grow slow.

It's fantastic, I look like a decently-groomed mountain man with no effort.

not really, making a blade razor sharp (litteraly) makes it near useless for survival, and the design of a regular blade means it cannot hold an edge this sharp for any period of time, especially for an axe
basically you end up with a blade that does neitherr job

Ingrown hairs can happen without shaving, too. I get them on my legs all the time; one of the first ones I ever had was on my neck during the time I had a beard. I popped it like a pimple, and the hair came shorting out.

Yeah but that would of happened regardless of whether you shaved or not. It's not like the ingrown would have stayed in his pore if he did shave.

Personally, I get a lot of pimples when I shave my neck line. It also get really red for a while so I usually just grow a beard. It itches when it's short but after a certain point it's a lot better than shaving every day.

I actually get less pimples and stuff when I shave, it probably has to do with shaving basically being like an extreme exfoliation. Yeah, sometimes ingrown hairs, whiteheads, irritation, etc. occur, but it's only when I do something wrong (shaving too much, too much pressure, using a Gillette Fusion, etc.).

I use an old Gillette adjustable and a Gem single edge, either Pre de Provence (it sounds kind of foppish, but it's good and relatively cheap) or Noxema shaving cream, and an Omega brush.

I'd say the razor is probably the most important part of that; a single blade is a lot less irritating than 3-5. The time I used a Fusion, it was almost like torture (light weight and pivot basically equals pushing five blades into your skin).

I forgot the mention, the Pre de Provence I use is the soap. The cream is kind of expensive; the soap costs about 10-15 bucks and comes in a pretty big tin. I've had the same tin for a year and I haven't even used a quarter of it.

Don't use electric for a reason. My dermatologist when I was a kid (rampant zits, accutane cured it in a week) told me not to. He's removed a few nasty things from people's faces that started as the finely ground hair that electric shavers sometimes make stuck in a pore.
