I've done 90% of my hikes with the same 3 others for a group of 4. I've occasionally done just a 2 man hike with my father who introduced me to hiking is still basically my best friend. I've only done my day hikes solo or with my dog. I think I've had the most fun with the small group or by myself. I don't think I'd enjoy myself with a large group.

Most groups actually hike alone during the day, it's at a determined camp they get together and do group shit. I like hiking alone and socializing at camp. No it's not weird hiking alone, nobody will think anything of it.

I did most of my long distance hikes alone and really enjoyed it. Met my fiancee while on the Mountain-To-Sea Trail so I now hike with her which is better imo. On really long trails it's good to have someone to talk to especially at night. Also she's more experienced than I am at certain things. She knows what's poisonous and what's edible in the wild.
