I’ve talked to these people.

Most don’t have a home, kids, bills, etc. They basically work and travel living in their cars or finding cheap rooms for rent. They’ll work long enough to pay for their next trip.

It’s a lifestyle that I wouldn’t be happy doing, but they enjoy it.

I'm a truck driver. I can take off any time I want. You don't get the great salaried security clearance jobs, but you could be a literal murderer and the trucking industry will hire you and you will make 60k a year. I took time off in June and could get my old job back tomorrow or a new company in a week.

7+ days, that's like 5 days off and a weekend and a half at minimum. That's like nothing. If you wanna have holidays for a month, that's where things get complicated.

While the US isn't quite as free-handed with time off as Europe, it's still extremely easy to take a week off work in almost all jobs.

I work in hydrography. I take contracts at leisure. Or as they appear if the money's right.
I'm just back from a 3 month cable laying job off the West African coast. Financially speaking I can comfortably not work for the next 3 months. I could take a whole year off if I wanted to, and still walk right into a job afterwards. It's great in some respects but bad in others. Trying to maintain relationships and friendships is strenuous when you are so transient.

Engineer here.
I get a fair amount of paid vacation every pay period, up to a fairly generous maximum set by HR.
Isn't a problem putting in a request for a week's vacation. A little bit of planning with my team, let them know what my schedule is and wrap up tasks before I leave.
About once a year I take about half a month off. Then usually a week here and there, with a few 3- or 4-days weekends.

But yeah this. I get 3 paid weeks during summer, 1 or 2 (depends on how busy the period is) more during the winter holidays and another 2 weeks I can choose freely. I work as a project leader now but even when I started out as a lowly electrician 10 years ago it was the same for holidays.
