If you get any size of flame going you can make a fire that wont need attention with a couple lungfulls of air. That and it gets wet kindling going well also
My unnecessary gadget is a little battery operated blower i got for $5, its saved me in rains couple times where i had nothing to cook on other than a fire. Ive had full fires in downpours with it
Sometimes i just use i in good conditions for cooking because it makes insanely hot fires
Im just a whore for a nice fire and i love any gadget that helps
