>>1341628I've ran across quite a few bears and mountain lions here in Colorado. They're highly populated in the areas I go mushroom hunting.
If a cougar thinks it's hidden from me I throw a stone at it. Black bears I don't screw with, I back off calmly.
My most recent encounter was me walking in on a mountain lion eating a deer leg. I got pretty close before it noticed, then when it saw me it darted leaving the leg behind. A week prior to that I saw one fall out of a tree, or I think it did. I was picking mushrooms up by the jefferson lake area near south park, then I heard a huge crash behind me, I turned around and the cougar was staring wide eyed at me and then just trotted off. Those are the only two I saw this year, which is little to how often I see them usually.
I get black bears trying to get to our neighborhoods trash cans all the time. I hate these guys cuz they ain't scared of humans, and they got quite an attitude too. I much prefer running into the ones further in the mountains, because you don't need to be aggressive with them at all. Usually I can just walk with bells on my walking stick and I don't run into any.
